Frequently Asked Questions about Central AC Installation

Did you know that May is National Home Remodeling Month? This an annual event is sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders. If you are tackling a home remodeling project, the warmer spring months are a great time of year for it! One of the most common home improvement projects we help with is installing new central air conditioners. So we thought we would take some time to answer some of the questions we are asked the most often about this type of installation.

Q: My home has a boiler. Can you still install central AC in my home?

A: While a traditional central air conditioning unit might end up being rather expensive, considering the ductwork we would have to install, you do have another option. Have you considered ductless air conditioning? We can install Fujitsu Mini Splits in your home, which is a type of ductless air conditioner that is getting more and more popular these days. It eliminates the need for new ductwork and it offers zone cooling and heating, which means you cool and heat your home room-by-room.

Q: Can you install central AC in my home any time of year?

A: We can install central AC almost any time of year, except for the cold winter months.

Q: How do you determine what size AC unit to install in my home?

A: We have a system designer who will come to your home to take measurements. The designer will include all of your doors and windows in the measurements and will also take the amount of insulation your home has into account. He or she will then input all of this information into a computer program, which will then do the cooling load calculations.

Q: After you are done installing central AC in my home, what can I do to help it run even more efficiently?

A: Once the installation process is complete, you might be wondering how to make sure your central AC runs as efficiently as possible. The best thing you can do is make sure to change the filters on a regular basis. The frequency depends on the type of unit we install, but it will generally be every one to three months.
