What is a Furnace Tune-up?

With winter right around the corner, making sure your furnace is working properly is more important than ever. And because we offer HVAC repair in Roseville, we are often asked about our tune-up services and how they can benefit our customers. Here is a rundown of what a tune-up is and how you can schedule yours.

The first thing the technician will do is perform a visual inspection. He will turn the furnace on and make sure the furnace starts up and begins to run properly. He will then turn the furnace off, as well as the power and fuel supplies, and he will inspect the venting systems to ensure they are still in good condition, sealed properly and that the joints are in good shape and sealed properly too.

He will then remove the furnace cover and blower-compartment covers. The mechanical parts and filter are inspected for any damage or needed HVAC repair. The filter is removed and checked as well, and he will double-check to make sure it is installed properly.

Next, the technician will check the blower to make sure there are no obstructions. The furnace’s burners will be removed and cleaned. Plus, removing the burners gives the technician better access to continue his visual inspection. He will look for any defects like separated seams, rust and holes. The burners are then cleaned, as well as the pilot and sensor. This helps to make sure these parts continue to work as they should and don’t require HVAC repair.

Finally, he will reassemble all of the furnace’s components and put them back into the furnace. He will then take the time to check the “high limit” on the furnace to ensure it isn’t overheating. And, finally, carbon monoxide levels are checked to make sure the furnace is burning cleanly like it should be.
